Brushless Motors PDF Print E-mail

What is a brushless motor? The simple answer is it's a motor without brushes.Wink

Brushless motor are built backwards from regular brushed motors. The magnet(s) is/are the part that spins, the rotor. The windings are stationary, the stator.

There are two different type of Brushless motors, inrunners and outrunners:

An inrunner motor has the rotor on the inside and the stator on the outside. These types of motors usually spin faster than an outrunner. A inrunner generally drives a gearbox.

An outrunner is just the opposite, generally the outside of the motor spins! These types of motors usually have more torque than and inrunner and are usually used to direct drive a propeller on an airplane.
